Much of the information you publish online can be used and reused in many different formats. To expand your web presence, consider repurposing your website content as:

  • Blog posts
  • Social Media Articles
  • PDFs for download
  • Guest reviews
  • Hotel Videos
  • Press releases
  • Twittering
  • PDFs for download

Repackage your content and distribute it through as many channels as possible to build a powerful web presence that increases your hotel’s visibility.

Become A Gmail Ninja!

Gmail is far and away the best online email management system out there right now. But a lot of people still use it like a regular email service, never touching some of its power-features that can really help with email overload. So Google launched a new Tips area of the site today to serve as a reference point for how to become what it calls a “Gmail Ninja.”

I have just achieved Blackbelt and all my email accounts have been migrated to Gmail now, I can tell you it works like a dream and I am definitely not missing Microsoft Outlook one bit.

Why not try it yourself?…Become A Gmail Ninja! Or Look Like A Huge Nerd Trying :-)

Password protection made easier by Passpack

I have come across PassPack the other day while I was trawling through my daily blog feeds and I was immediately intrigued. PassPack is an online password manager. For those of you who don’t know what a password manager is, it’s simply a program or web based application that is used to manage the dozens of passwords you have to maintain and keep up with on a daily basis.

I want to highlight PassPack and why I think it rocks!

The first thing that caught my attention is that PassPack is completely anonymous. They gather NO personal information from you. When you go to their website to login, you are prompted with a Username and Password field. This information gets you access to your “pack”. Your pack is your passwords all packed up in one single encrypted package.

It so easy to use and if you are at all in doubt the security then here is the technical explanation. Once you have logged in successfully to your account, your pack is then sent over a secure connection using SSL to your browser. Mind you, your pack which has all your passwords and information is still encrypted and never gets transmitted in the clear, so this encryption on top of SSL encrypted transmission is double security. Once your browser has received your pack, it then asks you for a packing key. This packing key is then used to decrypt the pack that your browser is holding for you. This means your packing key is never transmitted over the wire at all.

The inspiration of Livestrong

“Making a very cool announcement on Thursday re: a new American partner for our team in 2010 (and beyond). Stay tuned!”
The likelihood is that the team will be managed by Bruyneel and star Armstrong and be owned either by both of them or possibly Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation.
Can you image the positive impact this will have on this sport? Tour de France is a sport that in later years have embodied a never ending string of drug scandals. Not only has he single handedly brought the star glamour back to Tour de France and in the process showing all the youngsters out there, there isn’t necessarily  such a thing as “over the hill in sport if, at least if you are determined enough.  By using his Livestrong foundation he would further more take cancer awareness to a new level.  The struggle cancer sufferer’s face every day and the hardship Tour de France riders suffer every day on route, what a fitting analogy. I honestly hope his success in his endeavour and find Lance Armstrong to be one of the greatest inspirations.

Drop Box revisited

July 20, 2009 Leave a comment

I have written an article before about Dropbox before. But this week I thought I would revisit as Dropbox nearly “saved my life”. My laptop decided it had enough this weekend and crashed, not a simple thing either, the entire motherboard simply switched off.

Now if it wasen’t for Dropbox constantly updating my files and synchronising them every time there was any changes, I would have been in serious trouble Monday morning. But now instead I could simply login to the desktop and sync my docs/files etc..This proves Dropbox is one of the best online backup tools around. Yes I know about Google Docs and is using that too, but this is so different, the way it seamlessly integrates with your PC I got to say, this is a top notch product…I am happy to be a good Drop Box Ambassador.

Firefox is just getting better

Ok, I need to say this outright – I’m a huge Firefox fan.

Firefox is the best alternative to Internet Explorer and light-years ahead of it – it’s aster, and easier to use, more safe and much more customizable. It can copy over your settings from Internet Explorer (cookies, favourites, etc) and blocks pop-ups and spyware. It’s also completely free.

I am in danger of sounding like a geek,  but I know of  many unconventional users of Firefox.

Installing add-ons (this is the customizability coming into play here) is as easy as finding it’s page on the Firefox add-ons site, clicking on three buttons – the last is “Restart Firefox” and Firefox will restart right back to the sites you were looking at.

How easy is that?

Firefox can be found here – http://getfirefox.com/
The add-ons can be found here – https://addons.mozilla.org/

My favourites for people new to Firefox are:

Read It Later allows you to save pages of interest to read later. It eliminates cluttering of bookmarks with sites that are merely of a one-time interest.

Xmarks is the #1 bookmarking add-on. Install it on all your computers to keep your bookmarks and (optionally) passwords backed up and synchronized. Xmarks also helps you uncover the best of the web based on what millions of people are bookmarking.

Simple backups with Dropbox

dropbox

Where is that backup when you need it?? We have all been there, when we need that backup the most it just not there or upto date. Some of us have an external harddrive, but honestly do you really keep it up-to-date day by day. Avoid the hassle of backups and still stay safe. Dropbox is a new and great Cloud Technology option for all your PC users out thereand those of you with less the 2G of data backup it is all free. Dropbox is so simple to use, backup your important files, share files or even use it to synchronise multiple computers if you work on two or more machines.

Here is how it works, a small folder Icon apears on your desktop and you simple drag the documents you need backed up or are looking to share with others into that folder and like magic it gets syncronised onto your online Dropbox account. Now your can access your documents anywhere, anytime and even share certain documents with friends or collegues. Works like dream, so simple…try it out!

Sankt Hans Evening

June 24, 2009 Leave a comment

I can’t remember when we last had a proper Sankt Hans celebration, not only have we been away from Denmark in almost 10 years. But when we still lived in Denmark often Sankt Hans was an evening of rain those years and we did not get a chance as often as we wanted to celebrate. But we definitely enjoyed ourselves last night. Good friends had organised a Danish expat party with BBQ and Sankt Hans bonfire. Kids loved it, we loved it…Thanks guys!

Meat free Monday’s can change the climate

June 22, 2009 Leave a comment

Sir Paul McCartney has followed in the footsteps of the world’s leading climate scientist and a small Belgian town by calling on people to go meat-free one day a week and cut carbon emissions. The aim of the campaign – called Meat Free Monday – is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the world’s livestock population, thought to be a major cause of global warming.

The central purpose of the MFM campaign is for participants to go one day per week without eating meat (including fish) in order to slow the onset of global climate change by reducing the amount of CO2 generated through industrial meat production. Factory farms, notorious for the deplorable conditions in which they keep animals, would become less congested as a result of decreased demand, allowing penned animals a better quality of life simply through the provision of more space.

McCartney’s meat-free mission will be supported by several high-profile chefs, including Giorgio Locatelli and Yotam Ottolenghi, who have created vegetarian recipes for the campaign’s website. Linda McCartney Foods is also promoting the message, while Oliver Peyton and other restaurant owners will be highlighting meat-free dishes. The ongoing campaign hopes in future to measure the number of people switching to meat-free Mondays and reducing CO2 emissions.

I will definitely support this, will you?

Habaneras de Cádiz

I am still kicking myself for forgetting to bring the camera to Cadiz. I Spend a couple of days in Cadiz this past week attending and speaking at the another Hotel event. I had a couple of evenings on my own and which I spend exploring town and its local culture. What I discovered was a fascinating and vibrant town, so scenic that I just wished I had brought my Camera to capture some of the essence. Cadiz is definitely different from the “standard” Costal del Sol experience.

Listen to your hotel reviews

June 15, 2009 Leave a comment

With the ever evolving social media space, you always have this nagging feeling that you might be overlooking or missing critical some critical feedback on your brand, you are not quite sure what people write about you and hotel. In fact for hotels this is quite a challenge but essential for business. Recent studies show  more than 40% of people booking online ”listen” to reviews, so knowing what is written about you is important. I came across the great site today that offers some insight in what is going out there with your brand. Try visiting How Sociable you will find the results quit intriguing.

Will we “Bing it”?

After a faulted takeover attempt of Yahoo, Microsoft launches its own search engine called “Bing”. But the question is will this really work or is once again too late, not because of a lack of trying. First attempt MSN really did not have any impact at all on Google, if anything it seems to have made Google even stronger and with a raft of new great products from Google in recent months, it seems to me that Microsoft once again offered up too little and too late. But I might be wrong, I guess time will show. They will enforce it on you and I bet they will stuff it into the Explorer browser, so you cannot get rid of it. Thank God for Firefox and Chrome. Just remember if you are a frequent user of maps and images searches from Google then stick to Google. It will be a while before Bing catches on.
